"One of the most traditional restaurants in Rome, placed in the suggestive surroundings of picturesque Piazza Campo de' Fiori, still now offers typical Roman cooking authenticity and simplicity."

La Carbonara Restaurant, located in the heart of Rome, in Campo de' Fiori square, behind Giordano Bruno's famous statue, offers the chance to enjoy Typical Roman Cooking.

A tradition strengthened by a century of cooking art and a genuine passion for cooking as well as the choice of fresh and first quality ingredients, represent an absolute guarantee for its customers' pleasant stay.

The two-storey restaurant, equipped with air-conditioning, thanks to its outdoor tables, allows during spring and summertime to enjoy specialities in the open air, surrounded by the fabulous view of one the Eternal City's most ancient squares.

Unlikely from what one could imagine, the restaurant's name does not derive from the famous Roman meal, even if penne alla Carbonara (pasta cooked alla Carbonara) is one of its most typical specialities.

The restaurant's name is due to the fact that Mrs. Andreina Salomone's father, the restaurant's mainstay, at the beginning of last century had in the same neighbourhood a shop where he used to sell coal. One day he decided to open, close to its shop, an inn called Il Carbonaro (The Coal-seller).

When Andreina began managing the inn and then, when she married, decided to move to Campo de' Fiori square, fairly changed the inn's name in La Carbonara, anyway, without changing traditions, family habits and meals, like carbonara and amatriciana, abbacchio scottadito, trippa, coda alla vaccinara, animelle, fritto misto, torta di ricotta and torta di mele.

Downstairs the characteristic wood furniture make the premises warm and comfortable while upstairs the large windows permit to admire Campo de' Fiori's splendid view, allowing to enjoy the restaurant's specialities while admiring from above Giordano Bruno's statue, like no one else could.

Ggira ggira, ndo vai? Nun c'è più un sito
Dove, come 'na vorta all'osteria,
Si ciavevi la vòjja e l'appitito
Potevi maggnà a ssede o a portà vvia.

De solito era la mojje cor marito
Che staveno in cucina in alegria
E er criente era sempre ariverito,
A Pparione, a li Monti o foravia.

Ch'odore che mannava la pancetta
Arosolata cor pommidoretto!
Come scenneva assciutta la fojetta!

Pe sta maggnata diventata rara,
Spèce er giorno de pesce o de crapetto,
Vòi annà ssicuro? Và a La Carbonara.
